TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
During my tenure at Gateway, Xavier and DeVry I have noticed that students have multiple learning styles. It is my responsibility to make sure students understand the material and garner the information through their learning styles. It is great to see the “light bulb” come on when a student understands the subject matter. Education must be enjoyable.
Wherever I can interject materials that enhance learning, I will do it. Wherever I can work one on one with a student to enhance their understanding, I will do it. It’s not about holding hands, its making sure they understand; otherwise I have failed.
Through visual presentations, hands on, case studies, testing and writing students have been able to master the topics I have presented. These methods cover all of the learning methods of students.
It is important to demystify the topic I am teaching. This leads to encouragement and the desire to continue their education encouraging the student to become a lifelong learner. I also encourage students to share their experiences with others. When a student becomes a teacher, he or she is learning at the same time.
It is imperative that I have an understandable set of objectives for the student and facilitate those objectives. Also, I have to continue my professional development goals to make sure I am current on trends in Management and Information Technology industry.
